(CMR) Legendary reggae star Buju Banton is catching major flak after he posted a video to his Instagram on Wednesday (October 21) discouraging the use of face masks.
The Jamaican government has recommended the use of face masks along with face shields as ways to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
However, Banton in his 50 second long video said he would no longer be wearing a mask calling the government mandated regulation as ” bullshit”.
Buju Banton insisted that the Jamaican people were being fooled by the government.
“Wi waa done wid dis mask-wearing bulls**t inna Jamaica. Who fi dead ago dead and who nah go dead, haffi jus live. We tired of you intellectual fools trying to tell us how to live our lives,” he said.
Banton encouraged Jamaicans to question what they are being told by the government and further chided the country's lawmakers for having destroyed the economy and the livelihoods of the people.
Banton's message has found support among other more radical artiste in the industry like Tanya Stephens.
However at least 2 of Banton's 15 children have distanced themselves for their father's comments, with his daughter Abihail encouraging Jamaicans not to follow her dad's advice.

While Jodiann Myrie, also a daughter of the reggae icon, encouraged mask wearing as well as social distancing as two measures Jamaicans can take to flatten the curb.
Let us all as Jamaicans play our part in flattening this curve by continuing to wear our masks and practicing social distancing! Follow the protocols set in place to protect not only your life, but the lives of your loved ones.
