(CMR) Beryl is now a hurricane and is expected to strengthen to become a dangerous major hurricane by the time it reaches the Windward Islands. Cayman is currently in the cone for Thursday; however, things can change.
The exact path and intensity for later in the week is not clear as of now. Folks in Cayman continue to be advised to closely follow CI National Weather Service, Hazard Management Cayman Islands and local government weather updates, and encouraged by HMCI to review preps and plans this weekend and be ready for the season.
The US National Weather Service said Beryl formed into the first hurricane of the season on Saturday and is forecast to intensify quickly.
Hurricane Beryl is “expected to bring life-threatening winds and storm surge to the Windward Islands as a major hurricane,” NWS said.
A hurricane warning is in effect for the island of Barbados.
Forecasters warned Beryl was expected to strengthen into a dangerous major hurricane before reaching Barbados late Sunday.
