(CMR) The McKeeva Bush rape trial is set to begin on Tuesday, July 2, after a weeklong delay. Jury selection was finally completed on Thursday morning with seven jurors and three alternates.
Bush's effort to have his case delayed was rejected by the court after his local attorney. Dennis Brady was unsuccessful in his legal argument that he required the experience of an overseas King's Counsel. Justice Richards assured Brady that he was competent enough to represent Bush.
Despite her efforts to begin the case on time, there are further administrative and legal issues and closed-door legal arguments.
UK attorney Eloise Marshall KC is instructed by the director of public prosecution to lead the crowne's rape and sexual assault case against the former premier and speaker of the house.
Bush denies the charges, which are based on historic allegations that date back to 2000. Full details of the accusations are expected to be revealed during the opening remarks of the crowne's case.
The trial is being presided over by visiting judge Justice Roy Jones and is expected to conclude in two weeks.
