(CMR) Dr. David B. Wolfe of Dr. Wolfe's Dental Centre has died. He passed peacefully in his sleep early Friday morning, having just celebrated his 90th birthday on August 25th.
According to a post made by Dr. Wolfe's son, David Wolfe, on Facebook, the well-known dentist has been ailing for some time. Last summer, he recovered from a broken hip and suffered a broken femur on the same leg a few months ago.
His son said that Dr. Wolfe bravely overcame those obstacles while undergoing treatment for prostate cancer and hernia surgery.
“He rarely complained though he must have been in great pain. He always had a positive attitude and loved nothing more than a home-cooked meal and an audience for his stories. Mostly stories about how he came from nothing, never having a new pair of shoes, working hard to achieve all that he did,” Wolfe remembered his father.
“From early childhood, he knew he wanted to be a dentist, and he never lost focus. He fought in Korea as a sniper and medic but never said much about those days,” he continued.
Wolfe said his father, who was recovering from a stroke, texted him on August 20.
“That day, he was able to communicate on video chat. He was still fine and determined to recover. Apparently, another stroke got him a couple of days ago, and he passed peacefully in his sleep around 4:30 this morning,” he said.
Dr. Wolfe is remembered as a strong man who was in control of everything.
Dr. Wolfe is survived by his son, David Wolfe Jr., his daughter, Katy Wolfe, his daughter-in-law, Melissa Wolfe, and three grandchildren, Sky and River Wolfe and Jason Mayeaux.
In lieu of flowers, persons may make donations to his favorite charity, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, or, locally, to the National Trust of the Cayman Islands.
Dr. Wolfe will be laid to rest in his beloved Blossom Village, Little Cayman. Funeral and Memorial services have yet to be arranged.
