(CMR) Major flooding in Jamaica from Tropical Storm Zeta has resulted in the government issue a warning that some roads are unsafe and cannot be passed. The Jamaica Constabulary Force has announced that heavy rains across the island are causing floods, landslides and other water-related issues.
The Jamaican government is advising persons in the vicinity of Weise Road and Chalkie River in Nine Miles and the wider Bull Bay, St Andrew area to immediately evacuate and seek higher ground. Some areas include the Bog Walk Gorge in St. Catherine as heavy rains continued to fall into the day. Heavy rains have left parts of southern Manchester flooded. Amateur videos show large volumes of water covering roadways and other parts of New Forest, Duff House and Alligator Pond.
Rescue workers have been called in to help residents of two flooded homes in Cheapside, St Elizabeth. The parish has been taking a battering from persistent rains with flooding reported in other areas of the parish.
People are being advised not to walk in moving water and do not attempt to drive through a flooded area or roadway. Residents that live in an area that is prone to looking are also advised to relocate to a safe area.
Tropical Storm Zeta, whose outer bands are affecting Jamaica, is strengthening. The storm is currently stationary.
