(CMR) Hundreds of tourists were already mid-air aboard a flight to Jamaica when news broke that the island had closed its borders to travellers from the UK.
While the flight, which had approximately 302 persons aboard, was allowed entry, some passengers became disgruntled when they learned that they would be placed in a state quarantine facility upon arrival.
In a video which has been circulating on social media platforms, several irate passengers react to the news, with many suggesting that they should be tested and sent home.
” No St Ann,” said a Rastafarian man who was seen rocking a red, green and gold tam, with other passengers chiming in noting that they were not going to go to the state quarantine facility which is located in the parish of St . Ann.
According to the ministry, the travellers who arrived on the flight from the UK will be kept in state quarantine for a minimum of 48 hours.
The travellers who test negative or COVID-19 will be released to complete their mandatory 14 day quarantine at home, while those who are positive will be isolated.
Relatives are also being urged to adhere to infection prevention and control measures when picking up their relatives, as well as during the mandatory quarantine period.
Jamaica on Monday (December21) joined the growing list of countries that banned flights from the United Kingdom after news emerged that the country was battling a new coronavirus strain.
