(CMR) An American fugitive who faked his death to evade sexual assault charges is now facing extradition after catching COVID-19 and being arrested in a hospital in Glasgow, Scotland.
Nicholas Rossi (34) was wanted in connection with an alleged sex assault in Utah in 2008 and an attack in Ohio in 2018.
According to the BBC, Rossi, who uses the alias Arthur Knight, was admitted to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in December with COVID-19. He was detained under an international arrest warrant.
Various news outlets in 2020 cited memorial website EverLoved.com in reporting that Nicholas Alahverdian had died on 29 February 2020 from non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
The site said his body was cremated, and his ashes scattered at sea.
“Mr. Rossi was discovered to be living under an assumed name in Scotland,” the Utah County Attorney's Office said.
The Attorney's Office also stated, “He has been taken into custody, and the Utah County Attorney's Office is working with federal and international agencies to extradite Mr. Rossi to Utah.”
