(CMR) The US Embassy in Kingston on Tuesday (November 10) confirmed that the ambassador, Donald Tapia, was away from the island, receiving medical treatment in the US.
The embassy's tweet comes just hours after a local radio station reported that Tapia had been hospitalized.
While his condition has not been made public, the embassy said the ambassador's illness was not life-threatening.
The unfortunate circumstance surrounding Tapia's health comes just two weeks after the ambassador came under serious scrutiny following some comments he made on Twitter about Jamaica and China's relationship, which some viewed as US interference.
Subsequently, Tapia sort-of apologized, noting that he was not the person in control of his social media accounts.
