(CMR) There has been a great deal of confusion about the amended soft and curfew rules. In an effort to clarify what transpired yesterday CMR is providing a bullet point of the key changes:
SUMMARY:
-
- New provisions will permit certain essential activities by persons based on their surname.
- The exception is collecting food from a restaurant, medicines from pharmacy or emergency or medical care at healthcare facilities.
- These provisions exempt essential workers of these facilities but apply only to customers or patrons.
- Persons with surnames beginning A-K are allowed to make essential trips to the supermarket, pharmacy, bank, gas stations etc. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday; last names L-Z, Tuesday, Thursdays and Saturdays only.
- Some banks will open on Saturday—by mutual agreement 9am-1pm.
- Persons can still get 1 ½ hour of exercise every day except Sunday which is now a hard curfew day.
RESIDENTIAL HOME CARE FACILITIES:
No person shall, except with the written permission of the Medical Officer of Health visit or be permitted to visit, a residential home care facility.
CHILD CUSTODY/VISITATION ORDERS:
A new category of essential travel has been added. This relates to persons undertaking travel required by a custody agreement by consent or custody order of the Court.
Parents who do not live in the same primary household as their children can continue their existing arrangements to have legal access to the children.
PUBLIC SPACES:
The list of public places has been expanded in the Regulations to include:
– convenience stores and mini-marts;
– retail banks, building societies, and credit unions; and
– gas or refilling stations.
You can only visit an essential business now on the days permitted by last names mentioned above.
Note: Essential workers are submitted to these restrictions when carrying out their duties as essential workers.
EXCEPTIONS:
– pharmacies;
– health-care facilities; and
– persons who undertake travel to restaurants that provide drive-thru or curbside collection of food or provide for the take-out of food.
