(CMR)The UK recorded 1,610 COVID-19 related deaths on Tuesday, the highest single-day record since the pandemic began.
These people reportedly died within 28 days of testing positive for COVID-19.
The figure brings Britain’s official death toll from coronavirus to over 90,000, while the country also recorded another 33,355 new cases.
The recorded deaths on Tuesday also shows that four of the worst five days for deaths during the pandemic took place during January 2021.
Over a four-day period from January 11 to January14, there were 1,000 or more coronavirus-related deaths every day: 1,064, 1,052, 1,018 and 1,000 deaths respectively.
Research from Oxford's Our World in Data lists the UK as having the highest average number of daily COVID-19 deaths worldwide.
Over 4 million people have now received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine in the UK.
