(CMR) The Health Minister in the United Kingdom has issued a stark warning that the country is at a tipping point as it relates to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Matt Hancock made the revelation Saturday (September 19) noting that it was a critical time for Britain warning that a second national lockdown could be imposed if people don't follow government rules designed to stop the spread of the virus.
Hancock's warning comes as the country's chief scientific advisor, Patrick Vallance, noted that the number of coronavirus cases in the UK is doubling roughly every seven days; in some instances to more than 4000 per day.
“If everyone follows the rules, then we can avoid further national lockdowns. But we of course have to be prepared to take action. If that's what's necessary. You might be facing a further national lockdown if people don't obey the rules. That's exactly right. I don't rule it out,” said Hancock.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson has described the situation in Britain as the “second wave” and has already started to impose stricter measures in some areas across the country, though London is not under such restrictions.
Despite harsh criticism about the government's testing system not having the capacity to deal with increase demands as children return to schools, Opposition Leader Keir Starmer said he would support any measures the government announces.
