(CMR) At least fourteen persons are dead and another 120 injured following a strong earthquake which struck off the coast of Turkey on Friday (October 30)
Reports are that the magnitude 7.0 earthquake hit between the Turkish coast and the Greek island of Samos.
Official reports are that two teens were among the dead, after a wall collapsed on them in Samos
The catastrophic event brought down several buildings and triggered a “mini tsunami” which resulted in wide spread flooding in the Turkish province of Izmir.
Widely circulated videos show crushed buildings and people digging through the rubble in search of survivors.
French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin on Twitter said his country had offered to send assistance to Turkey and Greece.
“France stands alongside the Turkish and Greek peoples in facing this terrible ordeal,” Darmanin said.
