(CMR) Two long-serving fire service personnel were among the 12 persons arrested over the weekend for gambling at the Caymanite Bar & Lounge where police confiscated some $16,000 in cash.
Well placed sources have confirmed that newly promoted divisional manager for aviation, Whitman Tatum was arrested alongside Bunny Watson in the Sunday morning raid. Both officers are from Cayman Brac. Tatum was one of three officers promoted recently to the DM role in late August. Tatum has worked with the fire service for some 23-years and is now the Divisional Manager for Aerodrome and Domestic on Cayman Brac and Little Cayman. Both fire officers are co-workers and good friends. Watson (55) has also been with the fire service in excess of twenty years.
CMR understands that the fire service has not yet taken any action in relation to the arrests. The bar raid did not appear to surprise many persons with some commenting on social media that the gambling ring was well known about. Some commentators shared that they suspected police officers were part of the numbers selling operation as well and that offered the criminals protection.
