(CMR) The Cayman Islands recorded two COVID-related deaths during Epidemiological or Epi. Week 10, bringing total deaths since the beginning of the pandemic to 23. Both patients were unvaccinated and suffered from severe co-morbidities.
One death noted in this week’s Situational Report (SitRep) was previously reported in the Ministry of Health and Wellness’ daily COVID-19 updates.
During Epi. Week 10, there were 205 new cases of COVID-19 reported by Public Health. This was 21 cases less than were reported in the previous Epi. Week (28 February – 5 March).
Officials noted that 1,162 tests were conducted in Epi Week 10 compared to 1,429 tests in Epi. Week 9 and 2,581 tests in Epi.Week 8.
During Epi. Week 9, there were 13 hospital inpatients going through the two main hospitals in the Cayman Islands (Health Services Authority and Health City Cayman Islands). Of these, fifty percent were vaccinated.
According to this week's report, currently 86.7 percent of the population has received at least one dose of the COVID vaccine, with 84 percent receiving two doses and 32 percent the booster. All statistics reported during Epi. Week 10 has been adjusted to reflect the new population figure of 69,350.
