(CMR) The National Hurricane Center has confirmed that the disturbance south of Jamaica has strengthened into Tropical Storm Nana.
Tropical Storm Nana is moving west at 16 mph with maximum sustained winds of 50 mph. Some continued strengthening is expected. Tropical storm force winds extend out up to 80 miles from the centre of circulation, mainly on the north side of the storm.
Tropical Storm Nana is expected to pass south of the Cayman Islands but there remains some uncertainty in the forecast track, and the NHC currently puts the probability that Grand Cayman will experience tropical storm force winds at between 10 and 20 percent, and the Sister Islands at between 5 and 10 percent.
The Cayman Islands National Weather Service has advised that heavy rainfall is possible beginning later this afternoon and this could lead to flooding of low lying areas.
