(CMR) A 15-year-old Trinidadian girl is in police custody after repeatedly stabbing a schoolmate during a fight Monday afternoon.
According to Trinidad and Tobago News Day, the girl was being kept at the Princes Town police station up to Tuesday afternoon. Reports are that the girl may face charges of malicious wounding and wounding with intent to kill once a file is compiled and sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Up to Monday afternoon, the injured 15-year-old girl remained in hospital, where she is being treated for wounds to her face, chest, and arm. Investigators described the injuries as serious but not life-threatening, News Day reported.
The injured girl's family found out about the stabbing from a video posted on social media.
The girl is seen bleeding in the recording, while another girl, brandishing a knife, is restrained by a male pupil.
The victim's grandmother told the Daily Express that her grandchild was threatened in the past by the girl. She said the threat was reported to the school, but she was unsure whether any action was taken.
The Ministry of Education has indicated that the student could be expelled from school based on policies regarding students who engage in violent behavior.
