Tortuga Discount Liquors business at George Town’s Pasadora Place was robbed last night right before closing time.
We understand that staff were shaken up rather badly when armed gunmen entered the premises and demanded money. Our sources also indicate that shots were fired into the ceiling. There appears to have been several men that carried out the robbery with eyewitnesses estimating about 3-4.
Cayman Marl Road was informed last night by residents in the area that the helicopter was up circling after 10:00 p.m.
This is at least the fourth time that location has been robbed. Last year when the store was robbed company president, Robert Hamaty, said it was the worse robbery they had and called for liquor stores to revert back to earlier closing times of 7:00 p.m.

From RCIPS: Just before 10pm last night, 30 December, police responded to a report of a robbery at a liquor licensed premises on Smith Road. Three men, two of whom were armed, had entered the store with covered faces and demanded cash. The culprits left the location in a silver-coloured vehicle. Shots were fired but no one was injured during the incident.
Police are investigating and anyone with any information is urged to call GTPS at 949-4222 or Crime Stoppers at 800-8477 (TIPS).
