(CMR) A stolen vehicle has been reported to officers at the West Bay Police Station after it was stolen in the early morning hours of Friday, May 6, at Oceanside Plantation in West Bay. The vehicle owners have shared with CMR that the thieves are now demanding a ransom for the vehicle's safe return. They are also criticizing the RCIPS for what they claim is less than stellar investigative work.
Around 5:10 am, the vehicle owners heard their high-powered sports 2006 Honda Legenda being started and reeved up. They said the high-performance vehicle has a distinctive sound that alerted them that something was wrong. They proceeded to run to the parking lot only to see their car being driven away.
Within minutes they contacted the RCIPS at the West Bay Police Station only the informed that nothing could be done to check CCTV footage until after their shift change at 7:00 am.
Later on Friday,, the thief called the vehicle owner to tell him that he should not “left his vehicle open” and demanded $2,500. The owner told him “no deal” to which he then proceeded to demand even more money later. They told the owner that if he did not pay them $3,000, parts of his car would be in every car in West Bay.
In other words, they would scrap the car for parts.
As it relates to the police the owners share that their experience has been horrible. On Sunday morning, around 11:00 am, they contacted them for a further update and a Sgt. Bailey PC 425 proceeded to hang up on them claiming that there was too much background noise. Attempts to speak to superiors at the RCIPS have been unsuccessful to date.
Anyone with information on the vehicle's whereabouts is asked to contact the police immediately on 911.
