(CMR) Former MP for West Bay South, Tara Rivers, will be starting employment with Walkers Professional Services Ltd. starting July 6 as a Director. This exclusive revelation essentially confirms rumors that CMR published in February ahead of the 2021 general election.
Earlier today, Steven Manning, CEO of Walkers Professional Services shared that:
“Ms Rivers will provide Directorship services to structured and asset finance vehicles, playing a key role in driving commercial initiatives for WPS, and further bolstering the relationships between WPS, business partners and intermediaries, both domestically and internationally.”
CMR printed information from very reliable sources that the then Minister of Finance would not be seeking re-election due to low poll figures and would be returning to the private sector.
It was also rumored that she had already secured employment with law firm Walkers and that was part of her “exit deal”. However, at a press conference a week after our article she denied that she had secured any employment with one of the island's leading firms but instead had indicated she had many employment “opportunities” to consider because she's so “highly qualified.”
She's the first elected official known to have hosted a press to announce her retirement from public office.
Rivers served two terms in public office both in a ministerial capacity. However, her popularity soon dwindled after she was unable to make any meaningful changes to education and financial services. Instead, the country saw itself blacklisted and placed on a grey list during her tenure. Despite her retirement, Rivers would still have been eligible for the 3-month severance package that the Progressives government gave all MPs that were either leaving public office or not returned to office by the voters.
On their website Walkers Professional Services claims that it is “a dynamic corporate and fiduciary firm” offering servers in law, accounting, company secretarial and administration that has “a seamless relationship with Walkers law firm.” They have officers in Bermuda, BVI, Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore and the Cayman Islands.
