(CMR) After numerous concerns about its leadership, St. Ignatius Catholic School will welcome British educator Simon Testa as its new principal in August 2022.
According to Cayman Current, Parish Administrator Naveen D’Souza sent a letter to St. Ignatius's parents last week informing them that the School Advisory Committee and Parish Pastoral Council supported the appointment of Testa as Principal.
The letter reportedly stated that Testa has more than 32 years of experience “in various senior leadership positions in educational organizations in New Zealand, Malta, China, the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, and Malaysia.”
In 2020 parents raised numerous concerns about the school's management after multiple resignations from the staff at the institution. A report by school inspectors also expressed concerns about the school's management.
Former Head of School Emily Alexander left the institution in August 2020, while Principal Martin Nugent left after the spring term in 2021 after joining in March 2021.
Following a one-day ‘thematic visit’ to St. Ignatius in late January, Office of Education Standards inspectors raised a ‘Notice of Concern’ with the Ministry of Education, highlighting “staff wellbeing, the continued Principal vacancy, and the governance arrangements,” Cayman Current reported.
The inspectors reportedly submitted a “Notice of Concern” to the Ministry following the visit.
