(CMR) A local father, Jermaine Jackson (DJ YoYo) has posted his frustrations on his Facebook social media page after his 9-year-old son sustained a head injury at the hands of an alleged bully at Savannah Primary School.
The matter has now escalated after the child had to be taken to the emergency room today with an open wound to the back of his head. The child required several stitches after receiving treatment in the emergency room. We understand the bully is a year 6 child.
Jackson noted he decided to take his case to the court of public opinion after the fourth incident this school year – his son's first school year at Savannah Primary. Jackson shared exclusively with Cayman Marl Road:
“I have been calm and patient but I'm here now at the hospital to get my son stitches; what is going to be next – preparing for him to be put on an ambulance to save his eye or something else?”
The bullying appears to be an ongoing situation with other children at the school and sadly parents are complaining the issue has not been adequately addressed. Jackson informs us he's sorry of hearing excuses from the school and what he sees as disingenuous apologies with no real action taking place. His son is not the only child that is being harassed and physically assaulted by the same child. He noted that a young girl was assaulted by him recently and then pulled the fire alarm. Explaining how out of order this child has been he noted: “He has hit him in the neck before and my son slipped and hit his head at the end of a table. He had a headache after that for two straight days – are they waiting on this child to do something more serious to my son? I've had enough of this now. All I hear is we are sorry and it will be dealt with – meanwhile it continues at least monthly with no real correction.”
For the first time; the principal of the school called him today to apologize and check on the well being on his son.
This is not the only incident of bullying and harassment that government schools across Cayman are dealing with. Just last week CMR was informed that several students were suspended from school after fighting. The incident is related to the same children that a parent reprimanded on a school bus in September of last year. CMR reported on the matter at the time.
Jackson will be joining us tomorrow evening on our bi-weekly podcast The Cold Hard Truth.
