(CMR) A press release was received today indicating that the Governor, Mr. Martyn Roper, has decided to immediately release Sheldon Brown (48) from prison because of a terminal illness.
It further states the decision was made in consultation with the Advisory Committee on the Prerogative of Mercy to release him. He was due to complete his current sentence
Brown is suffering from terminal cancer and CMR was advised several weeks ago that he had been seeking treatment at Shetty Hospital in East End.
In his own biography it was stated that he “spent a considerable amount of years in the underworld of the Cayman Islands.” He was serving a 22 year sentence from a 2006 conviction for attempted murder. He spent a considerable amount of time incarcerated for various offenses including attempted murder.
He is the eldest son of Edith Virginia Goring and Charles Brown and grandson of the late Charles Joseph Henry Goring who migrated to the Cayman Islands in the early 1900's from his native Barbados. He is the father of two sons.
