(CMR) Customers at Scotiabank were met with an unpleasant surprise over the weekend – unauthorized charges on their debit cards. All-day unhappy customers have been turning up at the bank's headquarters in Camana Bay.
Several bank customers contacted us to say that there was a lengthy line at the bank today after numerous customers discovered that their debit bank cards has been compromised. One customer shared that they were at the bank for some 45 minutes waiting for assistance and that “every other person coming into the bank was complaining about fraudulent charges on their debit card account”.
It was further shared that ironically they all appeared to be the newly issued pin and chip cards which are supposed to be more secure. Some users just received their cards in the last week.
The security breaches appear to have been attempted from outside the country with cards being hit multiple times.
One customer shared that almost US$1,000 was taken from her card. Customers can expect to be issued new cards once the breach has been discovered.
