(CMR) Caymanian gymnast Raegan Rutty (19) competed Saturday evening in the All-Around Artistic Gymnastics Women's qualifications, subdivision 1 at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. She started the day's events with her floor routine which included original music and choreography. She also competed in the vault and bar beams.
Caymanians cheered her on from halfway around the world via TV screens and online streaming as she made her debut as the first Cayman Islands Olympic gymnast to compete. Her floor performance included a triple turn, a double back, a leap pass, double full, and front through to full.
Others competing in her qualifying division included athletes from Japan, Argentina Czech Republic and India. She scored 10.633 on her floor event. 12.133 on the vault and 8.566 on the uneven bar. Her scores were:
Rutty had only one day of events which she has now completed. Unfortunately, she is not permitted to attend any of the events as a spectator because of the COVID-19 restrictions. However, she shared with CMR that she was looking forward to sharing pins with the other athletes.
