(CMR) On Wednesday night we received numerous reports of a police operation in South Sound. Photos of a roadblock and details of both armed police and the helicopter were on site were reported by our various sources.
We know that the operation involved the Marine Unit and that some of them were in the water carrying out a search. Now the RCIPS has finally confirmed the details of the operation.
From RCIPS: Just after 11:00 p.m. last night, 14 March, the Joint Marine Unit, whilst on coastal patrol, intercepted a canoe in the South Sound area with 3 souls on board.
With the assistance of the Air Operations Unit, a search of the vessel and nearby waters was conducted and several bags containing large amounts of ganja were recovered, along with a revolver handgun and five (5) live rounds of ammunition. The bags are currently awaiting forensic examination, after which a weight can be provided.
All three (3) men, ages 34, 40 and 45, of Jamaica, were arrested on suspicion of possession of an unlicensed firearm, illegal landing, being concerned in the importation of ganja, and several other related offenses.
They were all taken into police custody where they remain pending further investigation.
