Rogue taxi driver takes kids on midnight detour

(CMR) A local parent has shared a harrowing experience her kids encountered over the weekend with a rogue taxi driver on her social media page.

She has indicated that her kids were subjected to a midnight drive from hell with a driver taking a lengthy detour in order to drop her friend off first. After that, the kids were then charged an extortionate rate for part of their journey. Upon indicating they had no funds for the additional fee; they were ceremoniously removed from the vehicle and left to fend for themselves.

The irate parent shared that:

“because in their infinite wisdom once left stranded by their taxi driver, they decided to hitch a ride from total strangers that time of night rather than call me(🤦🏻‍♀️) luckily the people who picked them up turned out to be decent people, but it could so easily have gone very differently… so I ‘m immensely grateful that all is well and they’ve learned a good lesson out of it all… several good lessons in fact!”

The parent, who is a mother of several children and a local attorney, has contacted both the police and the owner of the company. She indicated that owners were very responsive and indicated they would confirm the identity of the driver with a view to terminating her employment. Furthermore, they advised her to contact the Public Transport Board and lodge a formal complaint with them. If the driver has more than one complaint on file she could lose her taxi driver's license.

Commenting on the stressful situation she said:

“I am exhausted… And I haven’t even started… nor had any coffee yet!”

Others chimed in on the comment section with their concerns. One noted:

“These taxi drivers are con artists…as we hear these types of stories from visitors too. But to leave children at that time of night…I hope she loses her taxi license.”

Another parent suggested that an emergency number of a pool of parents who could be available at any time be a good idea. Whilst another parent shared a phone number for a more reliable taxi driver.
