(CMR) There was a fatal accident collision last night on the East-West Arterial just east of Chime Street that claimed the life of a young Caymanian. Police continue to investigate the matter and have asked motorists to exercise caution and obey the instructions of traffic officers on the scene.
Sources have informed CMR that Caymanian Brandon J Thompson (26) was killed in a single-car collision after his Nissan Skyline collided with a utility pole at around 1:05 am when he was heading home. Eyewitnesses who were the first on the scene indicated that the deadly impact was immediate as the vehicle came to rest on its side. Thompson was the sole occupant of the vehicle at the time of the incident which occurred at the intersection of Doubletree Lane on what is commonly referred to as the Newlands Bypass.
He is survived by a wife and young daughter. We understand he worked for the Cayman Islands Government as an automotive technician at the Department of Vehicle & Equipment Services.
Westbound traffic from Hirst Road was being diverted to Shamrock Road earlier but has since re-opened.
