(CMR) 31-year-old Jasmine James, Director of Sales at the Ritz-Calton, Grand Cayman was killed yesterday evening in the parking lot of her apartment complex in West Bay.
James has been in Cayman and worked for the Ritz for almost 6 years where she started as Travel Industry Sales Manager in May 2015. After several promotions, she started the Director of Sales post in July 2019 and was said to be a top performer that traveled extensively for her job.
She received a number of awards recognizing her professional performance and in 2011 he received an award from “the United States Government for assisting the President and his team while they were in Palm Beach, Florida.”
James, originally from Saginaw. Michigan had worked in Florida since 2007 including as a litigation associate.
Her co-workers reached out to CMR from as far away as Mexico sharing their shock at the news. They shared that “she was such a great person … The most happiest, bubbly person I have ever met, she will be missed so much.”
Other tourism industry workers shared similar comments about James stating:
She was the happiest person I have ever met in my life and she made everyone around her feel the same. She was the sweetest person would ever meet. Always had a smile on her face. This girl excuses life. You can't help but fall in love with her when you meet her.”
She recently shared on her social media timelines that August 28 marked five years that she had gone to sales school at the Ritz-Carlton in Amelia Island.
James' life was cut short Sunday evening in an incident that occurred in the parking lot of her apartment condo. The details remain unclear but CMR received reports shortly before 7 a.m. that a woman had been “run over” by a vehicle in West Bay.
Sources indicate that the two women were known to each other and may have been arguing in the car. James got out of the car and the driver then hit her and ran her over; causing her death. Another friend claims it was completely “unintentional” and that the friend had been out with her all day at brunch and did not even realize that she had run over her friend.
Police investigations continue as the 48-year-old woman of West Bay has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving.
