(CMR) Rita Marley, the widow of popular Jamaican reggae icon Bob Marley, is not dead.
Her daughter, Cedella Marley, took to Facebook Saturday afternoon to dispel rumors that the 74-year-old reggae matriarch had died.
Cedella's video showed her with her mother greeting fans as Bob Marley's music played in the background.
Rumors of Rita Marley's death started on Saturday after an online news outlet said they had confirmed the singer's death by a Zimbabwe Children’s Veterans Association tweet.
This is not the first time that there has been a rumor about the singer being dead. In 2016 after she suffered a stroke, there were several reports on social media that she died.
Rita was born in Santiago, Cuba, and later relocated to Kingston, Jamaica, where she grew up with an aunt.
She met Bob Marley in the early 1960s when she was a singer and manager of the Soulettes, the group that later became the i-Threes.
Rita and Bob got married in 1966. She is the mother to three of Bob Marley's children: Stephen, Ziggy, and Cedella Marley.
After Bob Marley died in 1981, Rita Marley continued to promote his legacy.
Rita now lives in Ghana, where she has supported many projects through the Rita Marley Foundation.
