(CMR) The police are investigating a shooting incident off Mangrove Avenue in Prospect in the early morning hours on Saturday, July 9. CMR sources shared that the shooting stemmed from the Ultimate Dancehall Street Vybz event which took place at The Pinnacle off Sound Road in George Town.
After the event, around 2:15 am a man discovered that his car had been vandalized.
Eyewitnesses shared that one partygoer had his “car window smashed and car kicked in”. This led to numerous people getting agitated and retrieving weapons from their cars. One man brandished a handgun which sent the entire crowd scattering for cover in different directions.
Ironically, the RCIP's Uniform Support Group (USG) patrolled through the area of the event shortly after but did not appear to know that anything happened and continued on their way.
Attendees believe that the subsequent shooting up of the house is linked to a young man who resides at the residence being involved in the earlier altercation at the Street Vybz event.
The eyewitness also shared that the homeowner of the Prospect residence was seen at the Red Bay gas station around 3:30 am in her nightgown. Another resident in the area shared with CMR that they heard gunshots around 4:50 am.
However, the RCIPS has since confirmed to CMR that shortly after 6:30 am officers responded to a report of shots fired at an address on Mangrove Avenue, where the occupant of a residence returned home to discover that the residence had received damage that appears to have been caused by gunshots.
No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
Officers attended the location and forensically processed the scene. The matter is currently under investigation.
