(CMR) The RCIPS have reported being attacked whilst carrying out a drug operation in Boatswains area of West Bay yesterday.
CMR reported yesterday on our Facebook page that a drug operation was underway.
Police Service (RCIPS) officers during a drug operation in the Boatswain Bay area of West Bay on Thursday.
Reports are that the RCIPS along with officers from the HM Customs and the Department of Agriculture were conducting an operation in the area when they were greeted by stones.
The stones were thrown at the officers by unknown persons nearby which caused minor damage to a service vehicle.
A RCIPS officer was also struck twice in the head and face, and was later taken to the Cayman Islands Hospital.
He was treated and subsequently released.
“Such attacks against officers in the lawful execution of their duties threaten the safety of everyone,” said Deputy Commissioner Kurt Walton.
“As police officers our aim is to maintain public safety, and when we are attacked that safety comes under threat,” he added.
Several ganja plants were recovered but no arrests were made.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
