RCIPS celebrating Thanksgiving

(CMR) Submitted by Jody-Ann Moore, Acting Compliance Officer, RCIPS

Cayman Thanksgiving is a weekend-long national celebration to honour Caymanian heritage, culture and way of life. This is a time for our Caymanian community to express gratitude for our many blessings and fellowship with family, friends and neighbours.

Cayman Thanksgiving is observed annually on the first Sunday in December, giving our community an opportunity to express gratitude, mark the passage of the hurricane season and celebrate Caymanian traditions.

The first Sunday after the official passage of the Atlantic hurricane season was chosen because of the profound impact that two major hurricanes (Ivan in 2004 and Paloma in 2009) had on Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac. By observing our very own Thanksgiving at the end of the hurricane season, it unites all three islands in offering thanks.

Once again the RCIPS celebrated Cayman Thanksgiving at the respective Units on November 29, 2019. Mr. Arek Nicholson of the Cayman Islands Fire Service opened the Police Headquarters Luncheon with the Cayman National Song (Beloved Isle Cayman). In attendance were the Cabinet Secretary Mr. Samuel Rose and Chief Human Resources Officer from the Ministry of Employment and Border Control, Ms. Briana Ebanks. See photos shared by staff of the day’s events.

As we continue to celebrate Cayman Thanksgiving, let us remain thankful for the many blessings we have received throughout the year.
