(CMR) Following an announcement on Friday afternoon to the media, The Public Health Department confirmed that they will be providing weekly detailed COVID-19 data including a breakdown of infection rates by age, gender and vaccination status. Chief Nursing Officer Dr. Hazel Brown issued the first via a video shared late on Tuesday evening showing that the vast majored of infected persons are unvaccinated.
The significance of this information is that people can now see emerging trends over time. The collated data covers the previous week of October 24-30 with an average of 131 new COVID-19 cases per day. Of these, 2.5 percent were travelers.
Overall, 52 percent of the cases were female and 48 percent male. The ages of positive cases range from one month to 80 years, with an average age of 34 years.
Dr. Brown said, “There were five babies under the age of one year, 14 percent were one to 18 years and one percent were over the age of 70. Most of the cases are in the workforce”
Of the week’s positives, Dr. Brown said, 36 percent were fully vaccinated, three percent were partially vaccinated, and 61 percent were unvaccinated. During that week, four cases were admitted to the hospital and two were discharged.
Dr. Brown urged residents to continue with personal prevention measures. She said,
“In the context of wide community transmission, Public Health is advising enhanced vigilance in prevention strategies. If you are isolated or quarantined, you may still prevent ongoing transmission if you adhere to the recommendations. Wear your masks, use hand sanitizer and practice physical distance.”
The Chief Nursing Officer reminded the public that COVID-19 vaccination clinics continue at the Lions’ Centre and Camana Bay locations, as well as district events as advertised on the Health Services Authority and government websites and social media platforms.
