(CMR) Premier and Minister for Sustainability and Climate Resiliency, Hon. G. Wayne Panton, attended the Terra Carta Action Forum, at the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (known as COP26) in Glasgow, Scotland, Wednesday. The Governor facilitated a meeting with Premier Panton and His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales, who hosted the event.
The Prince was pleased to hear of the new Commonwealth Climate Growth Fund (Cayman) LP, based in the Cayman Islands, and sponsored by the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC). This is a new investment fund focussed on businesses and technologies that deliver climate mitigation and adaptation throughout the Commonwealth.
When the Prince visited Cayman with the Duchess of Cornwall in 2019, he spent time discussing this fund with local stakeholders and has taken an interest ever since. Premier Panton’s attendance in Glasgow demonstrates how important an issue climate change is for the Government. The fund enables Cayman to make a potentially significant global contribution to combatting climate change.
The forum is part of the Sustainable Markets Initiative to establish international agreements that will support efforts to protect the climate, as well as diversity plans to protect the planet.
