(CMR) A 34-year-old American citizen, who was a guest at a hotel in Negril, Westmoreland, died at the Cornwall Regional Hospital in St James on Monday, where she was admitted with COVID-19, the Jamaica Observer reported.
Reports are that the pregnant woman arrived at the hotel on August 11 and was scheduled to depart on Monday, August 16. However, the result of an antigen test she did two days before her scheduled departure was positive.
She was admitted to the Noel Holmes Hospital in Lucea, Hanover, before being transferred to Cornwall Regional on Monday, August 16.
The number of COVID-19 cases in Jamaica continues to see a rapid increase, with hospitals running out of bed spaces. Jamaica recorded 879 new cases of the virus on Sunday. The country now has 13,140 active cases.
Experts have predicted that Jamaica could be downgraded from amber to red at the UK government’s review of the traffic light lists, expected later this week.
