(CMR) CUC crews continue to complete storm damage repairs to powerlines throughout the Island with 62 customers remaining without power as of 2 pm today.

Power was restored to customers in the following areas today High Rock Road, East End, Buena Vista and the Gun Square area in Bodden Town, and Jasmin Lane in Prospect.

CUC crews are currently working to restore customers in the areas of Camp Drive in the Kaibo area in North Side and Church Street, George Town. Customers in these areas are estimated to be completed by midnight tonight.

Apart from these large areas, there are still a number of individual isolated customer outages and small outage pockets dispersed across the Island and the company is systematically addressing those outages. Some of these customers can be restored quickly while others require extensive work and it is anticipated that CUC crews will be working throughout tonight again.

Crews continue to reconnect a significant number of customers whose electrical facilities sustained damage and were disconnected to enable the customer to repairs their premises. Customers are reminded that in those cases to contact a Licenced Electrician and obtain approval from the Government’s Building Control Unit (BCU), which is required prior to the CUC connection.

Customers are reminded to follow the safety guidelines when using generators. Never connect the output of the generator into the electrical breaker panel or household outlets. Keep generators outdoors in open spaces and always plug your appliances directly into the generator. Avoid overloading.

CUC thanks its customers for their patience and understanding as the team makes a final push to restore power to all customers.

CUC reminds the public to stay away from downed power lines and to exercise caution while on the roads.

“We encourage customers who are without power to refer to our Outage Map at www.cuc-cayman.com to confirm that the outage has been recorded and to obtain the estimated outage restoration time. If your neighbours have electricity and you remain without power, please leave a message on our Outage Hotline at 945-1282, which is being monitored by our team. To report downed power lines, fires, or other electrical safety issues, please call 911,” CUC stated.
