(CMR) A police service vehicle collided with a private motor car on Thursday as officers attempted to pursue a stolen vehicle. They later found out a teen reported missing on Wednesday was a passenger in the stolen vehicle.
According to the RCIPS, just after 1 pm on Thursday, police officers on mobile patrol on Godfrey Nixon Way in George Town observed a stolen vehicle exiting a gas station in the area.
They attempted to stop the vehicle; however, they could not do so. The unit then attempted to follow the vehicle, and in doing so, collided with a private vehicle.
The driver of the private vehicle complained of back pain, and the ambulance and other police units were called to the location to assist. The man was believed to have sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Both the police vehicle and private vehicle sustained damage from the collision.
The police unit involved in the collision continued searching for the stolen vehicle and was able to stop the vehicle in the area of Grescott Lane, George Town.
A juvenile female, who had been reported missing the previous night, was a passenger in the stolen vehicle.
Police said she appeared to be in good health and was taken into the police's care and her parents were contacted.
The police said the driver and a passenger of the stolen vehicle, both men, ages 19 and 20 of George Town, were arrested and transported to the Cayman Islands Detention Centre, where they are being held pending further investigation.
A third male passenger fled the scene and is currently being sought by the police.
The collision is currently being investigated by the Traffic and Roads Policing Unit.
