(CMR) Police can confirm that just before 9:20 p.m. on Saturday 10 July, armed officers were dispatched by the 9-1-1 Communication Centre, to the West Bay District, where reports were received of shots being fired. The officers are currently on scene and making checks in the West Bay area. So far there have been no reports of injuries made to the police as a result of this incident.
CMR also understands that there were unconfirmed reports of an “explosion” at a residence off Birch Tree Hill and police were seen taking a man away in a red shirt. Eyewitnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots in the vicinity of the post office before then seeing several firearm police response units on West Bay Road heading into the district.
There were secondary reports of an “explosion” sound coming from the Birch Tree Hill area which resulted in the police and fire rescue attending that location. Eyewitnesses shared someone was taking away by the authorities and some valuable evidence may have been recovered in the area.
The police confirm that an investigation has been launched and further details will be provided as the matter progresses.
