(CMR) A female police officer parked in a handicap parking spot in Cayman Brac and it was posted yesterday on social media.
Our Brac sources informed us that the officer had stopped at a gas station/convenience store to pick up some personal items whilst on duty. She then took full advantage of the convenient handicap spot.
Well placed CMR sources have now informed us that the Commissioner of Police, Derek Byrne, took swift action on the matter. We understand that the officer was issued a ticket. He then followed up with a personal emailed apology to the Disability Council stating that he was embarrassed by the officer who did not uphold the law. They also posted a response on our Facebook page confirming what we had already heard:
The post reached over 6,076 persons and received 67 comments and 14 shares. CMR felt it necessary to tag the RCIPS in the post. After all, if their own officers cannot abide by the most simple laws what hope is there for anyone else?
A number of posters who need handicap spots on the Brac were not impressed. There was also considerable debate on the topic with many showing complete disregard for the blue spot and stating that they were often “too lazy” to park anywhere else. Seems the Brac residents don't have the same respect for handicap parking.
