(CMR) The government has confirmed that the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) is currently investigating an alleged breach of isolation by a traveler who has been quarantining at a government-sponsored facility.
The traveler, who left the facility on Sunday 6 December, has since been located by police and will complete their period of isolation.
A thorough review of the security arrangements at the facility is underway and Public Health will undertake contact tracing as necessary.
The public and travelers are reminded that anyone that is found to be in breach of the mandatory quarantine provisions will be warned for intended prosecution and are liable on conviction to a fine of up to ten thousand dollars and imprisonment for up to two years.
A further public update will be provided in due course.
Last week's breach penalty has shocked the community after many now realize that Cabinet has changed the penalties to give the court full discretionary power which means they do not have to impose a fine at all.
