(CMR) On Friday, 20 March, police arrested Kasnique Patrice Austin Cupid (35) of West Bay, on suspicion of robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery, in relation to a robbery at Tortuga Liquor in Governor’s Square, Lime Tree Bay Avenue. on February 7.
CMR reported the arrest on Friday evening but Cupid denied that was the reason for her public arrest at her place of employment. Cupid maintained her innocence over the weekend by doing multiple live stream videos where she attacked CMR and claims that we had set her up to be implicated in the robbery. She further shared that Tortuga had hired legal counsel for her and a letter sent to Tortuga staff was entirely fabricated. However, police confirmed today that a woman her age was arrested and granted bail for the robbery as the investigation continues.
The incident was initially confirmed by Tortuga owner and President, Robert Hamaty, when he emailed all staff to share his disappointment after her arrest. Hamaty also confirmed that the robbery “was organized by this person” referring to Cupid. He also alleges in that email that Cupid was also caught on his advance security system “stealing from the company”.
The robbery shocked the community when shortly after 9:00 pm on February 7, police officers responded to a report of a robbery at the retail liquor store. Two males entered the store, brandishing knives, and demanded cash from an employee there. One of the men assaulted the employee and both males then made off on foot with a quantity of cash, one of them fleeing towards the rear of Cost-U-Less. Emergency services attended the scene and the employee was transported to the hospital for treatment, and later discharged.
The suspects were described as being dressed in all black clothing, long pants, long-sleeved shirts, and gloves, with their faces covered.
There was allegedly a getaway vehicle that sources indicate was driven by Cupid.
