(CMR) A petition started to remove Speaker of Parliament, McKeeva Bush ten months ago has been resurrected and is gaining traction with over 1,700 signatures.
The petition was initiated at the early stages of the February incident but many are now signing it and asking for his removal from the legislative assembly as the speaker despite the premier's assertions that he would not be willing to do so.
The petition in part shares that:
“Well, the people and visitors of Cayman are not having it! Please sign this petition to stand in solidarity with the victim. We demand that Bush be removed from government permanently, and held responsible for his actions!”
The premier has indicated he is not willing to chance calling an early election despite the recent guilty plea and suspended jail sentence. He also noted that there may not be another sitting of Parliament ahead of the May 2021 election.
Other members of Parliament have remained silent despite promising they would be doing so at a recent protest in George Town.
