(CMR) A 1998 Honda Civic registration stolen at the local Margaritaville parking lot has been recovered after the owner spotted her own vehicle in West Bay.
Cayman Marl Road originally reported last week Sunday, March 3 that the vehicle was stolen and taken from the resort's parking lot. The theft was caught on video; with many persons beign surprised that the were able to steal the car so quickly.
It was recovered yesterday afternoon after initially being spotted at the intersection of North West Point Road and Florence Avenue, West Bay around 2:30 pm by the owner of the vehicle.
Some modifications had been made to the vehicle including newly tinted windows, black trim painted white, new rims and taillights. The thieves had also changed the back license plate on the vehicle. The front had no license plate at all.
However, these changes did not stop the vehicle's owner from recognizing the older model Honda Civic. She actually spotted the car herself and immediately contacted the police.
In a CMR exclusive comment she shared:
“Despite these numerous changes I really know my vehicle and there were some distinctively things about it. I was showing someone around and came across a corner and saw a car that was kinda like mine. Almost didn't look twice; because it looked so different. Stopped to take a closer look and noticed some distinguishing marks. EPIC MOMENT!”
Shortly afterwards the police informed her they had retrieved the vehicle and were processing it for fingerprints and other evidence.
This morning there appeared to be some confusing with the RCIPS about the vehicle as an officer on duty told her that the vehicle had not yet been recovered. Turns out this was an administrative snafu as the officer had not yet checked her email with case updates.
No word yet on whether or not anyone has been arrested in relation to the theft.
