(CMR) OfReg said investigations have revealed no issues with the fuel quality at BarCam, following a complaint by a member of the public to CMR.
OfReg said it initiated an immediate, same-day investigation following notification of a social media post made on Cayman Marl Road (CMR) on 4 June 2022, where an anonymous member of the public alleged a fuel quality issue at the BarCam Esso gas station.
This included contacting the retailer and a series of onsite tests by the OfReg Fuels Team of fuel and equipment at both the BarCam gas station and at the SOL bulk fuel storage facility. The retailer was not aware of the allegation, and no complaint has been made to them.
Initial investigations and onsite tests by OfReg found acceptable fuel quality standards were met in both gasoline and diesel fuels, the dispense and storage equipment, and no evidence of water or sediment contamination was observed.
The results of the octane levels for the regular and Premium gasoline obtained were reportedly 91.7 and 93.7, respectively, after repeated tests.
Further samples were also collected for testing at an accredited lab overseas. OfReg will publish the findings of these tests when they become available in approximately 2-3 weeks.
OfReg said it is committed to protecting consumers in the utility areas it regulates, including regular monitoring and inspection of fuels in Cayman.
Members of the public can submit formal complaints to OfReg by email at [email protected] or by calling 345-946-4282. Further information on the complaints process can be viewed at https://www.ofreg.ky/how-to-make-a-complaint. All complaints are treated in the strictest confidence.
