(CMR) This afternoon, 21 March, the new RCIPS helicopter, the Airbus 145, arrived at the Air Operations Unit. The crew of the helicopter, which included AOU Executive Officer Steve Fitzgerald, and pilots Captain Toby Hart and Captain Dave Burchill, who will fly the helicopter for a few weeks until AOU pilots receive training in flying the H145.
The expedited delivery of the new helicopter was arranged as a national security priority in the wake of the technical failure of the H135 police helicopter on 26 February, after which it has been out of service.
The Commander of the CI Coast Guard, Robert Scotland, and the Air Operations Unit joined the RCIPS Senior Command Team in welcoming the new helicopter to the island. Both the Premier and Governor will inspect the helicopter this afternoon, with local media in attendance.
