(CMR) Prime Minister of Jamaica Andrew Holness announced new curfew hours and a new limit for gatherings on Tuesday as the country continues to see a spike in COVID-19 cases.
Holness said instead of a 10 pm curfew, as of Wednesday, February 10, there will be a nightly curfew from 8 pm to 5 am. This will continue until February 24.
The number of persons allowed to gather will also be reduced from 15 to 10.
The new set of rules come in light of a recent spike in the country's number of coronavirus cases.
On Friday, the country recorded its highest number of COVID-19 cases in a single day with 263 cases; however, a new record was set a day later with over 300 cases. On Tuesday, the country had another record-breaking number of cases for a single day with over 400 cases.
Jamaica has now recorded 17,701 COVID-19 cases and related 359 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
