(CMR) Morritt's Resort management in East End issued a statement earlier today via video sharing that the resort will be implementing a temporary pay reduction for all Caymanian employees and management at 75% beginning the end of the month.
Explaining that they will be operating with a skeleton staff work permit holders will be laid off at the same time. He explains that the COVID-19 pandemic has caused them to make hard decisions and they do not believe the resort will be opening anytime soon. They will be paying until those persons are able to secure a fight off-island. If a person refuses to leave when they are able to Morritt's will cease paying them at that time. Persons are encouraged to contact the emergency travel hotline at 244-3333.
At some point, they are hoping to be able to offer rooms to locals who wish to take advantage of a staycation until overseas business returns once the airport re-opens. Estimates are that it could be late 2020 or early 2021.
