(CMR) The Cayman Islands Government invites persons and organizations across the islands to join in a moment of silence at 11 a.m. on Thursday, 11 November to commemorate those in the uniformed services who lost their lives in battle.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s Remembrance Day ceremony on 14 November will take the form of private wreath-laying ceremonies without the usual contingents on parade.
His Excellency the Acting Governor Franz Manderson will lead the laying of wreaths at the Cenotaph at Elmslie Memorial Church and at the Seamen’s Memorial nearby. District Administration Minister, Hon. Juliana O’Connor-Connolly will conduct a brief private ceremony on Cayman Brac. Individuals may lay their own wreaths, on both islands, from 11.30 a.m. onwards.
In addition to streaming live on the CIG YouTube channel, coverage will be available on Government channels after the event.
The Protocol Office also invites members of the public to share memories of their personal wreath-laying with the wider community by tagging the Cayman Islands Protocol FB page and using the hashtag #remsunday2021.
There is also still time for members of the public to contribute to the Cayman Islands Veterans’ Association Poppy Appeal. Donation bins are placed at Government Administration Building, District Administration Building, and across the Cayman Islands.
