“In my respectful view, this will be a seismic shift in our Christian heritage and the way we have followed God over the years.”
Minister Juliana O'Connor-Connolly, Cayman Brac
(CMR) The Ministry of Education, Youth, Sports and Lands Julianna O’Connor-Connolly has issued a voice note statement today to pastors calling on them to petition heaven on behalf of the Cayman Islands because today is the day the governor will put into force the Civil Partnership Law.
The voice note is in wide circulation after being sent to a pastoral group and states that today will be the day that changes the history of the Cayman Islands forever. Calling the move a “seismic shift” she is “asking, begging and imploring” for prayer.
She concludes with our God reigns and we know it but we also need the world to know it. She believes that all parties who support this bill including the FCO and anyone else should be prayed for “supporting this evil that is being forced upon us.”
The governor has exercised his powers under section 81 of the Cayman Islands Constitution to pass the relevant pieces of legislation for the jurisdiction after the Legislative Assembly failed to do so last month.
The controversial move has been the talk of the island since then with numerous discussions on the matter. Despite that, the governor has made it clear that the Cayman Islands cannot ignore what the courts have mandated and a domestic/civil partnership was inevitable.
