(CMR) The police took decisive action against Wilson Mendoza last night in the ongoing land grab saga in West Bay after he once again blocked a 46-year-old right of way. Mendoza has been terrorizing his elderly neighbors for almost five years over a right of access way that runs through his property.
Mendoza's unprecedented stroke of good luck with the police may have finally run out as the commissioner, Derek Bryne, attended the scene last night to assist in resolving the matter. Mendoza had once again blocked the entrance to multiple properties with his two vehicles.
The entrance allows Mike Adam and his family to access their 35-year-old family home.
During COVID-19 his terrorizing actions did not slow down as he had multiple episodes of attempting to erect a fence as well put back boulders that he previously had in place.
Last evening he went on a tirade once again and was made to remove the boulders. However, he refused to move his family vehicles which included a silver SUV and a black Mercedes Benz. The CoP arrived on the scene and personally knocked on his door demanded he come outside. However, he refused to come out claiming that he was afraid and unaware that it was the police.
It appears the CoP had properly identified himself and was not impressed with this tactic. CMR understands that Mendoza has been warned for prosecution and the police had the SUV vehicle towed. However, before the Benz could be towed he voluntarily moved that one.
Last year the Cayman Islands government decided to settle the contentious matter by making the access way a public roadway. However, in the middle of them paving the roadway Mendoza and Crosby Ebanks obtained an injunction claiming that, inter alia, the government had not properly compensated them for the compulsory obligation.
The parties are still waiting for the matter to be adjudicated through the Grand Court so that the government may continue putting in the roadway. This legal move has emboldened Mendoza to believe that he can put back the fence the National Roads Authority removed back in October 2019.
